CVT, TCV, VVT, infotainment with mind of its own, self-cracking windshield, poor suspension and brakes, PITA to work on (try replacing sparkplugs)… They use boxer engines and insist on liquid coolant which will never work. VW knew this decades ago. This is why they chose air cooling instead…and no risk of blown head gasket. Subarus need constant maintenance and upkeep.
If you change your engine and CVT oil every year it may last, but who wants to do that? Changing CVT oil is a pain, and many places don't do it right. Many older cars on the other hand will rack up hundreds of thousands of miles with minimal maintenance. I speak from personal experience.
I would never consider buying a Subaru…
looking into a 2013 sti after losing my rsx type s
Toyota partly owns Subaru
lol all these folks saying their subie wrx/sti dont have the oil or head gasket issues… just stop.
Just stop… the motors are trash. they always have been.
You ain’t fooling anyone but the uninitiated posers who pretend to know cars.
Hey guys im looking to finance a 2015-2018 wrx sti Ive heard the 2015-2017 ej25 engines blowing up even stock before reaching 50k, any experience with this problem? Is buying a 2015 wrx sti with 90k miles a red flag 🚩 like the motor will blow withing the next 10k miles ? Do all subarus burn a quart of oil every 1k-3k miles?
The day I got rid of my racerboy subi STI was the day I became a man when I got a real sports sedan a CPO 2018 F80 M3 Comp, I've never pulled so many gorgeous women in my life.
i talked to a blob eye owner at my community college bro said he’s on his 6th engine
Going from a RS to an STI ill take the STI any day never had an issue with it even after tuning to 400~ im at 24k now so far so good. The community is pretty bad when it comes to car meets and being dicks on the road. Other than that no mechanical complaints so far.
i bought a 2009 subaru impreza outback sport 2 years ago as my first subaru & im in in love w it. ill never go back to a front wheel drive car. engine is still kickin, shifting is smooth. best purchase ive ever made.
BRING BACK THE BRAT! Lol
Another video talking about how unreliable they are even though they are reliable. People put low quality mods on and don't tune or do maintenance and lug/beat on the car, that's the reason they don't last. A stock ej257 can handle increased boost of about 30-35 psi. Head gaskets are a nonissue with boosted EJ engines. It is annoying that these myths are still around because people spread misinformation.
0:28 uh isnt that a Saab? ( the Grey one )
On engine 2
It’s such a gamble. My Legacy GT saw track time, modded, and lived until 176k on the original engine …my 2013 WRX’s EJ255 died at 91k …oh and it was a stock daily driver that was pampered it’s whole life in a garage with all dealership service and records kept.
Head gaskets rarely go out on turbo models, do your preventative maintenance and get a proper tune for these cars, and drive them properly. These cars blowup because of stupid owners who do zero maintenance and don’t tune for stuff they throw on the car
do nissan
A lot of people are misinformed and owners don’t do maintain
I’m on my second wrx, my first was a 2010 that had 150k+ tuned the whole way, my newest one is super aftermarket. Neither have had any issues. Nobody I know has had major issues with theirs either. I just don’t get it
I mean prodrive gave us the last batshit crazy Impreza by the p25 but we really need a last STI.
One of the Subarus that is awesome that I wish you would've touched on is the svx
I killed the original engine in my hawkeye because my monkey brain thought it was a good idea to turboback it on a OTS
EZ30/36 🙂
Can you do this for more car brands?
I've got a 55 plate jdm forester 2.0 litre cross sport turbo. Its very practical, fast and so far reliable although I did get the belts, clutch, waterpump changed and new oil regular so hopefully mitigated some risks. Sounds and drives great and a little different to most cars on the road in the UK. I love it!
Can you do a video like this for the g37?
Nobody ever talks about the EZ30 and EZ36 in their Subaru videos, one of Subaru's most reliable engines that sound great.
All these sad Subaru owners in the comments😭 either owned some N/A garbage or a 15+ wrx🤮
No love for the Legacy Gt models? Like the pre 2010 ones?
Got an 04 WRX with 240,000 miles and it’s been more reliable then my sisters RAV4 🤣
Be a stupid owner = have a broken car. Simple. Research your car before doing anything.
I’m nearly 50 and have taken 5 Subarus to 200,000+ miles. The only one to pop a head gasket was my wife’s 2010 Impreza.
Only reason they blow most of the time is because 1 they have cast pistons which is a no no, and 2 people go fbo without building a single part in that said engine. I highly recommend you go with a built motor from IAG or BaderBuilt. You can get a simple set up with just forged pistons or go crazy and get a 1100HP+ rated short block. 🥸
I drive a 2019 WRX. I’ve owned it for only 10 months. I love this car. Unfortunately the previous owner ran it low on oil causing cylinder 3 rod bearing to spin. It’s been in the shop for 2 months…
Owned an 06 and honestly the community is trash. Miss the car don't miss talking to the trash ass people. But only the N/A engines have common head gasket failure not the turbo models
Aside from the headgaskets I hear the transmissions are made out of glass too.
