  1. Great review. The humor is excellent and appreciated, but the information and commentary is first rate! As a 24 R MT in America, I can tell you that I had a small sampling of the YouTube grief the UI/UX got in reviews. Sorta impulse bought this car and then saw all the hyperbolic complaints about lack of knobs. Bunch of BS. People would have you believe that: 1. You never take your eyes off the road to push a button and 2. Taking your eyes off the road for a couple of seconds = imminent danger. Wtf?!?

Also – this comfort seating auto adjustment for drivers seat is now something you can select/deselect.

Forum members crap on the MT often (blah blah blah Honda blah blah blah). I made a couple of modifications and moved it from good to very good. With each model release there will be less manuals, just buy one!!!

    Thanks for your review!

  2. Pretty good review. I have a ‘24 w/ the manual transmission, (since I live in the US), and there are some buttons etc. I would rather have but…so what. I’m learning the system it’s just not that big deal. And this is from somebody who’s had 15 years straight of three series Bmw, where essentially all the controls and buttons were in the exact same place.

  3. Totally argee on your verdict, I have an R performance and love it! The tech takes a little getting use too, but once your use to it it’s fine! But in the UK, you need the adaptive dampers and winter pack, which really is a game changer. I’m getting 4.0 dead to 60 also, from have a 7R, it’s big jump in power delivery, and the grip levels are insane! Despite its niggles, it’s an amazing car to drive! Love it!!!

  4. Do you always drive in a straight line. Turn the wheel and see if it's easy to hit the heated steering wheel. I was on track this weekend and kept changing the damn driving mode. So annoying and almost cause me to crash.

  5. I love hard controls but seriously the touch controls and their adjustability is so much superior. I love the glass cockpit. Mechanical failures are much more common in planes and cars nowadays

  6. I work at VW and we just got a Blue 2024 Golf R for our lot in manual. When I saw it, I wanted it. But when I saw the all this touch crap, I changed my mind on wanting it. But few days after, I was looking at it again. Needless to say, I bought it. Main reason is, it's the last year with them offering it as a manual. And with this being the last year as manual, I do think it will hold it's value a bit better.

  7. I just bought mine, Black Style, with Akrapovič exhaust, maaan, I am just giggling non-stop and adrenalin is off the chart 😍it's just hard to imagine beforehand how this car changes the whole attitude in race mode, it's like a different car with a touch of a button, sick 👌and I don't find the buttons too bothersome at all, would recommend🤘

  8. I actually just bought a mk8 r manual two weeks ago. I did it with a ton of worries because 99% of the reviews i have seen talk horror stories about the infotainment system and buttlnless design. Two weeks in I can tell you I love it!. Feels way more modern and ypu get used to in days. I can control any menu with ease standing or on the move. All responsive, clear and easy. Yes you need a couple days to adapt and maybe most reviewers dont have enough time to do it, hence the bad reviews.
So glad i got an 8 and didnt wait for the 8.5 for two reasons… manual transmision and actually the infotainment system. Lookig at regular buttons feels like a step backwards, and that new large screen… not needed and seems like a forced aftermaket kit.
I am not saying is perfect but by a mile it is a much better system than.reviwers are claming. This review was actually very honest!
Oh and vw seem to have fixed the seat issue since it works with mine!!

  9. I like the fact that this is the ONLY review that doesn’t whine endlessly about the sliders. Also glad to know there is someone else who knows how to adjust volume from the steering wheel.

I also bought one before watching a bunch of reviews because I liked my 2018 GTI and knew I’d love this one. Starting in Sport mode seems a bit odd, especially as the Nuremberg Ring setting seems bother sportier and more comfortable.

My only real complaint is that VW is not mandating that dealers spend an hour showing new owners how everything works. The dealer ship where I bought my 2018 GTI took the time to show me how to use everything. Unfortunately, they had only a black 2024 R, and as I live in Alabama in the US South, I know that I never want to own a black car here again (had a black Civic Si thirty years ago).

As a result, I am STILL reading and re-reading the manual to make sure I’ve got all the tech figured out. And the manual isn’t that well-written.

But man, when I’m driving this beast in the hills around here (we are at the Southern end of the Appalachian mountains), It. Is. Magic! And that’s coming from a guy with lots of track time in an E36 M3.

So glad I bought this, and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine.

    Thank you for the knowledge!

  10. This video is everything it needed to be. All the top car review videos thst come up after searching go into this much detail. That amputation mode is kinda harsh tho lol. Thatd be a problem for me but hopefully they update it
