Today at the Mystery Shack, we embark on a long overdue brief retrospective of one of my favorite series of all time – Death Note. As usual, we’ll be delving into all the teeny tiny details and talking about the good, the bad and the ugly of Death Note – breaking down all the best and worst moments and talking about what worked and what didn’t.

Can't believe this video has got over 10k views in a mere few weeks, massive thank you to everyone who has given it a watch, especially all the enjoyers of the color red! 👀 ❤
Edit: Well ok…. 6 days later and it's over 20k… Thank you x100 once again! 🙂
This opinion of Near and Mellow is so tired and boring.
No, Near is really different from L. He tries to win in the most logical and clean way. He's not childish like L. And he's more confident in his assertions. More confident than he ought to be. Nevertheless, he represents the "logical" part of L.
Mellow represents the childish, rash, and do-whatever-it-takes-to-win side of L. And the initial plan Mellow devised to get the Notebook from the Japanese police was so brilliant and air tight–quite literally one of the most impressive moments in the series. How could you see that and think he doesn't really compete with the others?
Red
42:26 his sister was boring flat and we barely saw her
20:30 why not repeat the trick and narrow it down further?
I like red apples ;]
You’re absolutely right cause I thought the same thing. What is it a whole alphabet of people that they could go through if one didn’t succeed
To me, it was pretty predictable that it was gonna die so I was not rooting for LI was not rooting for Yagami. I was rooting for near otherwise known as in mellow just got on my nerves all together his emotions we ask people being highly emotional need to take a page from mellow.
This video was hot like blood, and its associated color
I always felt for Misa getting the red eyes twice
10:41 William DaFriend
Red is good
I fucking love Near, he's my 2nd favorite Character behind L.
I hated Light so much that i wanted to see him loose and Near was very similar to L and still different enough that i don't see him as a cheap copy of L.
But i would still love to see an alternative Anime where L won and/or an Anime where it only focuses on L and him solving difficult cases.
RED 😀
2025 and still rewatching death note. Thank you for such detailed analysis.
read/red
I always thought liked Misa's red eyes. When Light's dad had them, they were just creepy.
Don’t leave us on red with these videos
Bro murdered over 100,000 people light WAS NOT PLAYING😭
Death note is boring and overrated.
11:16 something like it did and I didn't even flinched
I really like the theory of Near using the notebook to manipulate Mikami's actions in the final stand off! Great video 👍
Also red
Paused on the page of the book with all the names and… 'Prosciutto Salame' ????
Three years later Reddddd
Wait…there were people rooting for Light?!?! WHAT?! I'm literally shocked that anyone would support that man beyond episode 1😫 I took personal offense when he KO'd ole girl and when L went down 😭 bruh that HURT hurt, it was hard to watch after that.
I dont get how people think Light isnt special or at least unique. He literally changed the course of human history with the amount and specific people he killed. He literally had almost all the world agree he was right, if for no other reason, then fear. Light wasn't a good person, but he definitely was special.
❤
Don't even mention the Netflix garbage they put out. Complete Garbage
Red. Cool video some interesting ideas. Made me think about watching the show again.
Red. Great vid
The contrasting colours of the Red apple with the dark colours of Ryuk makes it look great in all the art of him.
"A brief retrospective" makes the video almost an hour long🥲
light is a god amongst humans, so it makes no sense why he lost in the end. he has a god complex cause he is one
the shinigama world is nowhere so its nor heaven or hell, meaning everyone there has used a death note.
I enjoyed your analysis – but I have to hard disagree on your take of the dub being better than the original. The japanese voice actors were terrific, and I assume you don't understand Japanese given your take.
Perhaps I'd agree with you if you said "For non-Japanese speakers, the actors of the dub were great and it offered a better viewing experience for me" but to say straight up that it's better is like saying "Apples taste better than strawberries" having never tasted strawberries.
I never watched a anime before this one but this anime is one of my favorite shows that i ever watched and i also think it's one of the best i've seen i don't think i'll watch another anime after this one i'm obsessed with this show now and it's all CZsworld's fault :Btw Red
Totally not Mark tells you almost everything you need to know about the creators of death note he made a video about it
Technically Light died because Ryuk wrote his name in his book, otherwise Light would have rotted in jail for years which would bore Ryuk. We don't know how long Light would have lived past that.
Anime + Dub = 🤮
Now i need to rewatch this whole shit so thanks for that. Need to fomulate a new opinoin on this as its been a minute.
Red not sure how the justice system works in Japan but here I think Light would get not-guilty just because there's no way you can explain this shit to a jury. The defense would poke holes at every twist whether it made sense or not. They would play up Lights charisma, his status as a perfect student and "good kid", and his fame he already had as a detective. Add a catchy phrase like "if the note doesn't fit you must acquit" and he would get free
I never gave this series to much thought until I heard Lights batshit insane villain laugh. Then I was hooked.
After AoT I would LOVE an overanalyzing of Death Note.
I love the fact that if you believe in the theory that light becomes a shimigami due to him using the death note, this in turn means that Ray Penber also became a shimigami. Idk why I just find that funny
Was I the only one who never for a second wanted light to win and was praying on his downfall the whole time
Huh, I just watched this not realizing you are the overanalyzing AoT guy until I checked your channel for new videos. Then I remember I had indeed watched the "Light lost in episode 2" video a really long time ago, and thus actually been watching your videos off and on for a whole lot longer than I realized. Just thought that was interesting lol.
