Modify your boat at your own risk.

Crappie fished with my cousins Garmin Force and not once did we get the boat acting wildly like what happened to your setup, it was in a aluminum 18 ft boat and anchor locked and troll smoothly. Settings was set for light aluminum boat and no issues
No disrespect to small boaters but that trolling motor has to much thrust for that size of boat. The garmin is made to move big fiberglass boats.
2lb of thrust for every 100lbs of the fully loaded boat is the basic formula. Also consider the the wind conditions your willing to fish in and you can bump the 2lb up a little, but there is a point for smaller boats when you have too much. I doubt that boat is 15000lbs fully loaded so 30 – 55 is what you need that garmin pumps out 80 or 100 depending on the battery setup 24v or 36v.
What boat are you in at 1:30 on the vid?
The Garmin Force is damn loud when making rotation corrections. It's hard to relax fishing when he howls like that: https://youtu.be/rFwbd9mWHCI
The Garmin force is the best trolling motor in existence. Kieth Poche puts that thing through absolute HELL!
Couldn't watch the whole video too much whining
BTW, when using Nav heading mode, you have to be moving in the direction you want to go. You cant just turn it on from a standstill and expect to go in that direction.
I totally disagree with you. I see a lot of operator error and not fully understanding the controls. Any TM set on high, will shift abruptly when the propeller is engaged. Before I got on the water with it, I read the instructions and watch videos. If you are coming from another brand, it’s called negative transfer of learning. On my first day, I stayed in a cove, opened the online instructions and went through all the procedures. As far a spot lock? It work within govt GPS specs and held within 5 feet of by marker. I could jog left or right, forward or back 5 feet by using the >. I had no issues with the foot pedal or accidentally hitting another button. It’s obvious yiu didn’t do a study of the controls and how they work. My boy is an RT188 aluminum. Plus, it integrates with my Garmin units flawlessly.
This motor is definitely too large for that boat.
Thanks for the honest review. I think i would use the remote alot more than the footpedal.
OK, finally found this video on re-checking the Garmin Force. All I've read on the web is , yes, the foot paddle is a bit cheesy. The hand held controller is fantastic and the power/battery ratio is superb. I haven't found any yet that have had the problems you experienced except one, Kansas Youth Fisherman and he had a cracked ring that went below and above the motor(not the head) that had something to do with the steering/tracking capabilities. I am taking your review serious because I want to buy my last trolling motor to last. I'm now leaning towards the Terrova or the Ultrex…. even though I have all Garmin graphs…. I'm stuck in wanting in one hand and wishing in the other….
Sound like you are a hater on Garmin. The Garmin force is widely used and is a great trolling motor. All trolling motors have Issued. I had an Ultrex and had major issues with the foot petal button and then the armature. So no one is better than the other. Just the luck of the draw.
You guys out in Az must have different experiences. I have ran all 3 on boats and my order is exactly basically opposite to yours. Garmin was by far the best I don’t know if you had a setting issue or if your version of “bumping” buttons is different then mine but we run it on Lake of the Ozarks which is basically a washing machine and the only time I have inadvertently shut it off was getting bashed by a poker run full 40’ go fasts and 35 foot cabin cruisers causing 6’ rollers. Spot lock generally holds about a 2’ diameter at worst. Plus the remote is amazing. Lowrance I was 50/50 on take it or leave it nothing special. But by far the worst was the Minn Kota. My team partner burnt through 3 in about 9 months. First motor fried, called customer service fought him for 2 week about replacing it. 2nd snapped the end off the steering cable in normal use again big argument to get taken care of. 3rd one spot lock randomly took off and would move 30 yards on his 2020 Ranger 521c. That’s when he just gave up and bought the Lowrance.
I got my force about 4months ago, and im very happy with it. I cant say ive experienced any of the issues you have mentioned especially the Nav Heading you were talking about – that is really bizzare. Maybe thats an old update or something because mine definitely doesn't do that. Also, as for the sensitivity of the foot pedal you mentioned, that can be adjusted with the screw on the underside of the foot pedal 🙂
I heard power pole is coming out with the trolling motor that no company will be able to compete
I have a Garmin and had issues with the peddle twice and was replaced. The anchor lock I hate! When trying to lock it in place it moves back like 10 ft and than forward again so annoying. Call Garmin and update the trolling motor still same. If I can do it again I would buy an a ultrex.
Watching the trolling motor go crazy and try to throw you in the lake made my day. Love your videos
Thanks for throwing my boat in the vid👍
Love my Ulterra
My guy when are you going to build a boat for saltwater? Would love to see you make a jon boat for saltwater application with a .150 guage at least bottom for rocks and corals and what not.
It looked like they took the software for a mechanical bull ride and put it into a trolling motor…See how long you can hang on. A real thrill ride!
Every person that clamors on about the force/garmin, does so because the Ultrex is on backorder and they haven't been able to get one. Simple as that. The Ultrex is the best and it isn't up for debate.
Valid criticisms. I'm really rooting for Garmin to step it up with a Force 2.0 model which addresses all the hundreds of easily remedied problems that plagued this trolling motor. I have 4 Garmin chartplotters and wish I could have the confidence to buy a Force, but this grandiose pie still needs some baking in the oven. Maybe Black Friday 2022 will have something that doesn't fail as much…Garmin, are you listening? #AnxiouslyWaiting
Ultrex is the best I've ever used. I've had many others and just went recently back to Ultrex not switching again..
Humminbird and Minnkota are both Johnson companies if I remember correctly. Makes sense they pair well.
