Evinrude was the best around for the 70s and 80s models
About to look at a boat with one of these on it 2001 90hp is this motor really that bad??? It seems like the family took decent care of it
Ur an idiot
Because of videos like this i take this account less and less seriously
Stop babbling on and get to the points ! No one wants to hear your stupid stories
See ya,
My 99 225 ficht runs great 26 years old still going strong
Still running two 150HP 1999 Fichts on my RIB and they are just reliable and fine. I use the boat for scubadiving. I was a bit worried and googled for the Coast Guard Recall you mentioned, but honestly I can only find one for 200 and 225 HP outboards. This was because of fuel leakage in the engine compartment (which is ofc not great).
The only issues I know of were issues with the injection and coking and overheat issues with the EMM. The problem with coking was a result of bad oil used, therefore evinrude only supported XD50 2 stroke oil, since it optimized performance and reduced coking. Also they adviced to not idle for longer times and if so, to raise rpm for some minutes every here and there.
Regaring EMM: It was mentioned the system should be rinsed with fresh water regularily to avoid EMM overheating. It's a design issue, but if known and treated well, not a real issue though IMHO.
The lower engine mounts completely corrode and collapse over time… Thevplastic fitting on the high pressure pump snaps off spraying fuel all over your hot engine. The magnets on the rotor let go and ruin your day. The tiniest bit of water causes injector failure and a lean out on one or more cylinders and your in the lock up. Gear case seals leak like a russian submarine etc etc
Stupidly i just bought a 1999 150. Guy said its been a great motor. I checked compression and all 120 psi. Just wondering if there is anything i can do to extend the life of this engine. I wish i had seen this video before i bought it.
For my first boat, i grabbed a take off 99 Ficht 150 from a local marina for $350. It had all the head upgrades and such. Almost 800hrs on the motor and itโs been great for me. Iโve even smoked a prop on a reef and didnโt damage the gear case
"Then they went water cooled….better idea…..Cool it down with the water…We got a water pump… Lets fking cool it down"… I have watched this video countless times and I crack up every single time.. Its classic.
Dang that makes me feel a lot better about running a FORCE. At least it's cheap and worst it could do is lose comp instead of killing me๐
I have 2×90 hp 2011 e tecs on my 18 ft butt cat. They have been good to me, and i hve to admit that i am not sorry i ever bought them. They sometimes stand for 6 months, turn the keys and they run.
just bought one 2002 $500.00 looking for a used parts company. let Jordan respond please,
Honestly, they probably put a goddamn expiration date on those f**kers๐
โItโs exciting โ ๐๐๐๐๐
Usually they blow after like 10 years
Don't like content like this. Do we need the F word in every sentence?
Man I hate most content but this here is gold and you kill it breaking it down ๐ค
I've got a 1999 150 only 252 hours on it but so far just computer rebuilt last year otherwise it's been flawless haven't even replaced the plugs
The Emm part is true. Mine is was toast!!
I've 2012/13 Evinrude Etec 250 H.O., had Mercury Fury 25P on it when i bought boat from dealer. bought Raker II 26P from a Pro. My Rpms were too high. Pro said that year Etec was good motor & only went to Mercury because G2 sucked & they Quit making anymore. I run it few times a year on trips. Ive replaced 2 trim motors, 1 water pump & 2 sets plugs indexed properly. i use either startron or Techron in fuel every so many tank fill ups.
I've got a 2019 etec 90 hp and it's been flawless the last 5 yrs. Quiet at idle, great fuel milage and barely uses any oil.
Damn I just picked up one. Didn't know that im either fucked or in for a ride.
I brought a 2004 evinrude 90hp etec they are nice looking motors, I'd admit but first day I got it took it for test run it keeping bogging down on power!! Till it stopped. I then took motor to a local outboard shop. Sure enough the pistons weren't getting oil to them and they seized up turns out the oil pump was faulty and wasn't pumping oil to the pistons cost me 4k to repair it and motor still isn't going and has another fault. Take my advice don't get a etec buy a yamaha or a honda
Hi, thanks for your video. I guess I'm lucky I've had the boat new since 2000 we've used it for years. No real problems at all until now. 2023 is when it started cutting out. When you take off wanting to die when you you put it in gear we've spent couple thousand dollars trying to get it fixed. Once you get it going it goes okay. It's just taking off. We do ski with it too so that's screwed that up. They've changed the spark plugs 've always garaged it. It's always been inside. Taking good care of now. We just can't get it fixed so wanting to sell it. Pat, after watching your video, I'm not too excited about selling it to somebody. Is there anything you can tell me about why this issue is happening? Or maybe a quick fix that Mike? Let us sell it. It's really weird. If you hook it up to water in the shop it runs fine but you put it in the lake. It's never been in the ocean only lakes. You get the issue of it dying when you put it in gear and cutting out as you take off. Any help with a fix issue on this would be great
Buddy bought one in 1999 (175). It lasted less then 6 minutes. As he did not make it past the no wake zone. Idling killed a lot of those good anchors.
I own a 2000 Ranger with a 1999 Fitcht 115HP Evinrude. The only problem with my 25-year-old engine was the electric fuel pump stop working, after sitting a few years with out starting it. Replaced with the same one that came with it, was not difficult to do. I do maintain on a regular basis and I run the XD100 synthetic oil. The engine has been reliable so far, so cannot bad mouth it. I do fish on reservoirs, the lake water is not bad like what your are talking about.
DO the lower HP (90 HP) have the same problems and are they just as shitty? Im asking because im considering purchasing a boat with a 2000 90HP,. Everywhere online says the FICHT are trash but the problems were mostly with the larger HP 6 cylinders and the lower HP 4 cylinders should be fine. Would you agree with that statement?
So I have to ask you at this point. What motor do you actually like? A really good power to weight ratio in something between 101 and 150 hp. I have an old StarCraft Chiefton.
