  1. I am currently looking at buying a 2000 186 anniversary edition. The boat is low hours and appears to be garage kept. How serious of a concern is the transom and wood rot on a 25 yr old champion. I assume, they were using wood in the transom and hull, in 2000, right?
    Thanks guys!

  2. Grew up on my dad’s 21-FT Champion center console, he bought it brand new in 2000 and had a custom tower put on it. Still has the original Yamaha 200hp motor (2-stroke for those who care) and it cranks first start every time. Like the video mentioned, the transom failed about 10 years ago and we had it rebuilt. That being said, my dad and I still go fishing in that boat to this day. The hull rides smooth and it still rivals the new boats 25 years later.

  3. This is my second champion bass boat a '98 202 dual console with a 225 Yamaha VMAX great boat great ride ahead of 85 fishing ski 17 ft with a 150 jump out of the water did a great job I would not have anything else they the best ride boat you can find thanks for your comment you do a great job have a good day JT from Virginia

  4. I saved a 1984 18ft champion from a barn, guy just gave it me. Currently in the process is cleaning it up and getting it running. It's rough but I'll breath life into her.

  5. I had an 88 Champion custome orderd from the factory, with a supped up Merc XR6 and I honestly did a 180 degree turn at 60 MPH. The G force put my passenger to the floor. That boat was amazing. I had people at tournaments take the VIN number because 150 HP was the max at the time and they couldn't believe I was legal. That was one fast Mercury. I loved that boat. I lost it in a divorce.

  6. Could not stand my 1999 19 foot champion. Was beautiful, ran fast, you could see the quality throughout,,,,,but,,,,when fishing out of it, the boat wobbled too much side to side. Was not stable at all as a fishing platform. Might have been the model number, but something about that hull was not stable when at rest and fishing out of it.

  7. I have a 98 187 champion that I picked up in Mountain Home. It's a dual console elite and has been repowered with a 2010 175 Mercury Optimax. Boat is in fantastic shape, still has same carpet and seat backs. Dean's replaced my seat bottoms, which match perfectly. Trailer was plagued with the monolith springs breaking and the hollow tubular frame rusted from the inside. It now has a McLain's aluminum trailer. Never an issue with transom or hull. Seat bases were changed to stainless and seat posts are springfield snap fit. The old tapered seat posts were a nightmare.

  8. I just bought my first bass boat ever last spring and it’s a 1979 champion 16 foot. It’s got a 130 Johnson on the back which is a 1997. seems to be a really good boat so far. Only paid $3,500 for
It. I am totally hooked on bass fishing now. Does anyone have any thoughts about the 79 champion?

  9. Dear friends, I need your input and advice. I need to redo the entire livewll panel and switches and new windshields. Is this easy to do or do you recommend to take it to a shop?

  10. I'm completely rebuilding a 1999 191 right now. All woodcreplaced with Coosa. The teansom was good. Replaced it anyway. Stringers were wet as was all the foam. Boat set outside for years. Traded a junk truck for it. I sold these boats from 1977 to 1987. Last one I owned was a 99' 203. I prefer the 191, 190, 193 in that order. Not a fan of the wides like 198, 206, 210.

  11. I’m looking at a ‘97 201DC with an ‘06 Evinrude E-tec 225, Gorilla Hull. Am I crazy for considering this with the known transom issues? Was told this one is solid but have yet to see it.

  12. My dad has an 89 champ with a 175. He bought it new and has always been garage kept. Probably hasnt ran in 15 plus years. If I was to get the boat, is there any precautions to keep the transom in good condition?
